Antibody detects endogenous levels of total MED28.
Target Information
The mediator complex is a multi-protein transcriptional co-activator expressed ubiquitously in eukaryotes and is required for induction of RNA polymerase II transcription by DNA-binding transcription factors.
MED28 (also known as Magicin) is one of the proteins in this complex and is expressed in many cell lines and tissues.
Down-regulation of MED28 in NIH3T3 cells induces genes associated with smooth muscle cell differentiation, while overexpression represses SMC gene expression.
MED28 can form a ternary complex with Grb2 and Merlin (neurofibromatosis 2 tumor suppressor protein), suggesting a role in tumor suppression.
It has also been identified as an HIV dependency factor (HDF), indicating potential as a drug target in HIV treatment.
At least two isoforms of MED28 are known to exist.
