Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes about half of blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000. It is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage of its N-terminal peptide and Golgi processing to yield the secreted albumin form.
