Target Information
C2CD2L (TMEM24) is a lipid-binding protein that transports phosphatidylinositol, the precursor of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2), from the endoplasmic reticulum to the cell membrane. It maintains the pool of cell membrane phosphoinositides degraded during PLC signaling and coordinates Ca²⁺ and phosphoinositide signaling by tethering the ER and plasma membrane. Upon cytosolic Ca²⁺ elevation, it becomes phosphorylated at the C-terminus, dissociates from the membrane, and halts phosphatidylinositol transport. It positively regulates insulin secretion by replenishing PI(4,5)P2 pools and promoting calcium channel opening, thereby priming insulin granules. [UniProt]
