Target Information
Mitochondrial protein that probably regulates the biogenesis and activity of mitochondria. Stimulates cardiolipin biosynthesis and binds to cardiolipin-enriched membranes, recruiting and stabilizing proteins such as prohibitin. This may contribute to the organization of functional microdomains in mitochondrial membranes. Through regulation of mitochondrial function, STOML2 may be involved in several biological processes including cell migration, proliferation, T-cell activation, calcium homeostasis, and cellular stress response. It is required for mitochondrial hyperfusion, a pro-survival response that enhances ATP production. Additionally, it may regulate plasma membrane domain organization and T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor signaling complex.
