Target Information
The product encoded by this gene belongs to the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved and play a crucial role in cell motility, structure, and integrity. Alpha, beta, and gamma actin isoforms have been identified:
- Alpha actins: Major constituent of the contractile apparatus
- Beta and gamma actins: Involved in the regulation of cell motility
This antibody targets alpha actin found in skeletal muscle. Mutations in this gene are associated with:
- Nemaline myopathy type 3
- Congenital myopathy with excess thin myofilaments
- Congenital myopathy with cores
- Congenital myopathy with fiber-type disproportion
These conditions lead to muscle fiber defects.
