Also known as PAF65B, TAF5L is a 589 amino acid nuclear protein containing six WD repeats.
It functions as a component of the PCAF histone acetylase complex and interacts with multiple TAFs, contributing to histone acetylation and transcription initiation.
Defects in the TAF5L gene, expressed as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, are associated with the pathogenesis of type I diabetes.
