Target Information
Upon entry into mitosis, the cell’s microtubule (MT) network forms the mitotic spindle, allowing segregation of paired chromosomes. Proteinaceous structures on centromeric chromatin termed kinetochores (KT) are essential for proper chromosome attachment to spindle MTs.
A spindle and kinetochore complex composed of SKA1, SKA2, and SKA3 is required for stable KT-MT interactions and timely anaphase onset. Depletion of SKA1 or SKA2 disrupts KT localization of both proteins, causing a checkpoint-dependent delay in metaphase-like state.
SKA2 also interacts with glucocorticoid receptors, playing roles in glucocorticoid signaling and cell proliferation.
