Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This receptor-type PTP contains:
- An extracellular domain with multiple fibronectin type III repeats
- A single transmembrane segment
- One intracytoplasmic catalytic domain
It interacts with neuronal receptors and adhesion molecules (e.g., contactin, tenascin C), and sodium channels, suggesting roles in cell adhesion, neurite growth, and neuronal differentiation. Alternate transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
