Target Information
The IL21R gene encodes a cytokine receptor for interleukin 21 (IL21). It belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family and forms a heterodimeric receptor complex with the common gamma-chain, which is also shared by IL2 and IL5 receptors. This receptor mediates IL21-dependent growth-promoting signals, playing a crucial role in the proliferation and differentiation of T cells, B cells, and natural killer (NK) cells. Ligand binding activates downstream signaling pathways involving JAK1, JAK3, STAT1, and STAT3. Mouse knockout studies indicate its role in regulating immunoglobulin production. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
