Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This gene is preferentially expressed in hematopoietic cells and acts as an early response gene in lymphokine-stimulated cells.
The noncatalytic N-terminus of this PTP interacts with MAP kinases and suppresses MAP kinase activities.
It is involved in T cell antigen receptor signaling through dephosphorylation of molecules related to the MAP kinase pathway.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
