Target Information
Melanoma-associated antigens (MAGE) are silent in normal tissues except male germ cells and, for some, placenta. These antigens are tumor-specific, expressed in various tumor cell types. Due to their restricted expression, they are of particular interest for antitumor immunotherapy. MAGE genes encode tumor antigens recognized by cytolytic T lymphocytes on human melanoma. Though their function is unknown, they may play roles in embryonal development, tumor transformation, or progression.
