Target Information
The EGR2 gene encodes the early growth response 2 protein, a transcription factor that binds DNA to regulate gene expression. This protein is essential for the formation and maintenance of myelin, which insulates nerve cells and ensures efficient nerve impulse transmission. Defects or mutations in EGR2 can lead to demyelinating neuropathies such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1D or 4E, or Dejerine-Sottas syndrome.
