This antibody specifically recognizes an epitope encoded by exon v4 on the variant portion of human CD44.
Standard CD44 (CD44s) lacks the variable region and is mainly expressed in lymphohematopoietic cells.
Multiple isoforms (CD44v1–CD44v11) contain alternatively spliced exons within the extracellular domain.

Target Information
CD44 is a 100 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed on human leukocytes, white matter of the brain, and certain epithelial cells of the intestine and breast.
It acts as a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and plays roles in cell-cell interactions, adhesion, and migration.
CD44 is involved in lymphocyte activation, recirculation, and homing.
Expression may be up-regulated in some carcinomas, potentially related to metastatic behavior.
