Target Information
Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome, spanning about 260 million base pairs and comprising approximately 8% of the human genome. It contains around 3,000 genes, many of which are associated with various diseases. Examples include:
- Hutchinson-Gilford progeria – associated with LMNA gene defects
- Familial adenomatous polyposis – linked to the MUTYH gene
- Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s, Gaucher disease, Usher syndrome – associated with chromosome 1 genes
- Schizophrenia – linked to a breakpoint in 1q affecting DISC1 gene
- Various cancers – including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma, and multiple myeloma
The KIAA0562 gene product has been provisionally designated KIAA0562 pending further characterization.
