Target Information
The sodium/potassium ATPase is an integral membrane enzyme found in all cells of higher organisms. It mediates the ATP-dependent transport of sodium and potassium across the cell membrane. This enzyme is related to other ATPases such as SERCA and PMCA. The sodium/potassium ATPase consists of a catalytic alpha subunit and a smaller glycoprotein beta subunit.
There are three alpha isoforms (α1, α2, α3) and two beta isoforms (β1, β2), each showing tissue-specific expression. The α3 subunit is primarily expressed in neuronal, skeletal, and cardiac muscle, as well as lung and stomach tissues.
