Target Information

Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein containing two heavy chain subunits, two alkali light chain subunits, and two regulatory light chain subunits.
This gene encodes the beta (or slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, expressed predominantly in normal human ventricle and skeletal muscle tissues rich in slow-twitch type I fibers.
Changes in expression levels of MYH7 and the alpha heavy chain correlate with cardiac contractile velocity.
Altered expression is observed during thyroid hormone depletion and hemodynamic overloading.
Mutations in MYH7 are associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
