Target Information

GOLPH3 was initially identified as a peripheral membrane protein localized to the trans-Golgi network, but has also been reported as a mitochondrial protein regulating mitochondrial mass through cardiolipin control. It is implicated in the TOR signaling pathway, where overexpression enhances anchorage-independent growth, cell proliferation, and S6 Kinase activity in response to EGF. Increased AKT phosphorylation is observed in GOLPH3-transfected cells, while GOLPH3 siRNA treatment reduces these effects. These findings suggest GOLPH3 functions as a bona fide oncogene and may be a potential therapeutic target.
