Target Information
Neuroglycan C (CSPG5) is a transmembrane chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan expressed exclusively in the central nervous system. Its gene expression is developmentally regulated and can be altered by psychostimulant exposure or nerve injury. The core protein has a unique multidomain structure and undergoes post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and glycosylation. Neuroglycan C transitions from a proteoglycan to a non-proteoglycan form during cerebellum and retina development, suggesting a role in neuronal circuit formation in the CNS.
