Target Information
Syndecans are heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) involved in cell adhesion, tissue morphogenesis, and differentiation. They act as low-affinity co-receptors for soluble growth factors. Syndecan-2 participates in the mitogenic activity and signaling of Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-stimulating factor in osteoblasts and plays a regulatory role in matrix assembly. It is expressed at epithelial-mesenchymal interfaces and in prechondrogenic and preosteogenic mesenchymal condensations, which are regions of high morphogenetic activity.
