Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The identity of the bound growth factor determines whether the receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer (alpha and beta polypeptides). Knockout mouse studies indicate that PDGFRA is crucial for kidney development, as heterozygous mice show defective kidney phenotypes.
