SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus that caused COVID-19.
The virus contains a glycosylated spike (S) protein composed of S1 and S2 subunits. The S1 subunit includes a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that binds to the ACE2 receptor on target cells.

Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress.
The Spike (S) protein plays a critical role in viral attachment, fusion, and entry, serving as a major target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development.
The receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the Spike protein binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, showing higher affinity compared to the SARS-CoV RBD.
The full-length SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein consists of 1273 amino acids, including a signal peptide (1–13), S1 subunit (14–685), and S2 subunit (686–1273), responsible for receptor binding and membrane fusion, respectively. The S-ECD refers to the extracellular domain of the Spike protein.
