Target Information

The jellyfish Aequorea victoria contains green fluorescent protein (GFP Tag) that emits light in its bioluminescence reaction. GFP is widely used as a reporter protein for gene expression in eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms, and as a protein tag in cell culture and multicellular systems.
As a fusion tag, GFP enables localization studies, movement tracking, and analysis of subcellular compartment dynamics. GFP technology has provided significant insights into cellular physiology.

GFP is a 27 kDa monomeric protein that forms its fluorescent pigment autocatalytically. It absorbs blue light (maximally at 395 nm) and emits green light (peak emission 508 nm) without requiring additional cofactors. Its fluorescence is stable and species independent, making it suitable for various applications such as:

• Monitoring gene expression and protein localization
• Studying protein–protein interactions (e.g., yeast two-hybrid system)
