Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation.
MAP2K1 is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx.
Mek1 activation occurs via phosphorylation of serine 218 and 222 residues by Raf1.
It is involved in signaling for stress response, apoptosis, and proliferation induced by cytokines.
Mutations in MAP2K1 can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
