Description

Guard columns and retention gaps are widely used in gas chromatography for different purposes.
A guard column traps nonvolatile material at the head of the column, preventing it from reaching and contaminating the analytical column.
A retention gap helps focus compounds transferred from the inlet as a narrow band at the head of the analytical column, minimizing chromatographic peak broadening.

Siltek-treated stainless steel MXT guard columns provide excellent compatibility with MXT analytical columns, combining the strength of metal with the inertness of glass.
These guard columns can also serve as retention gaps.
