FLJ40504는 type I intermediate filament chain keratin 18을 암호화합니다. Keratin 18은 keratin 8과 함께 intermediate filament 유전자군의 대표적인 구성원으로, 단층 상피 조직에서 발현됩니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 cryptogenic cirrhosis와 관련이 있으며, 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
