Target Information
ME1 encodes a cytosolic, NADP-dependent enzyme that generates NADPH for fatty acid biosynthesis. The enzyme catalyzes the reversible oxidative decarboxylation of malate, linking glycolytic and citric acid cycles. Expression regulation is complex and may increase with elevated thyroid hormone levels or higher dietary carbohydrate content.
