Target Information
The inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family of proteins regulates programmed cell death triggered by various stimuli. All IAPs have at least one baculovirus IAP repeat (BIR) motif essential for anti-apoptotic activity.
Livin (also known as ML-IAP) is a novel human IAP family member containing a single BIR domain and a COOH-terminal RING finger domain.
Livin gene has two splice variants with open reading frames of 298 and 280 amino acids, both containing a BIR and RING domain.
Both isoforms inhibit TNFα-induced apoptosis in Jurkat cells. Livin expression is low in adult tissues but relatively high in developmental tissues and many cancer cells.
