Target Information
Glycophorin C (GYPC) is an integral membrane glycoprotein found in human erythrocytes. It contributes to the mechanical stability of red blood cells. Various mutations in glycophorin C cause different blood group phenotypes such as Gerbich and Yus (due to exon deletions) and Webb and Duch (due to point mutations). Glycophorin C shows minimal homology with glycophorins A and B.
