Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions at the site of synthesis. LIPG likely plays a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, whereas deficiency elevates HDL cholesterol levels in animals. LIPG exhibits phospholipase activity and may be involved in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It belongs to the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region providing substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in the digestion of dietary fats, and can bind to heparin.
