Target Information
Glutathione S-transferase M3 (GSTM3) is an enzyme encoded by the GSTM3 gene in humans. It belongs to the mu class of glutathione S-transferases, which function in detoxification of electrophilic compounds such as carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins, and oxidative stress products through conjugation with glutathione.
The mu class genes are clustered on chromosome 1p13.3 and are highly polymorphic. These variations can influence susceptibility to toxins and carcinogens, and affect drug efficacy and toxicity. Mutations in this gene class have been associated with increased cancer risk due to environmental toxin exposure.
