Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a membrane protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It functions in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, mediating recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 also plays a role in malaria pathogenesis and acts as a receptor for thrombospondin. Mutations in this gene lead to platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
