Target Information
TCP-1 theta is the theta subunit of the CCT (chaperonin containing TCP1 complex), a chaperonin molecule abundant in the eukaryotic cytosol. It may be involved in the transport and assembly of newly synthesized proteins.
Molecular chaperones assist in protein folding upon ATP hydrolysis, and TCP-1 theta may play a role in the assembly of the BBsome complex involved in ciliogenesis and vesicle transport to the cilia.
Additionally, TCP-1 theta is involved in the folding of actin and tubulin. The intact CCT complex is composed of eight polypeptides forming a double-ring structure and plays a key role in folding the VHL tumor suppressor protein.
