Target Information
The ABHD5 protein belongs to the alpha/beta hydrolase fold family and contains three sequence motifs corresponding to a catalytic triad found in the esterase/lipase/thioesterase subfamily. It differs from other members of this family by having an asparagine residue instead of serine in its catalytic triad. Mutations in this gene are associated with Chanarin-Dorfman syndrome, a triglyceride storage disease with impaired long-chain fatty acid oxidation.
