Target Information
This potassium channel is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels preferentially allow potassium ions to flow into the cell rather than out. Their voltage dependence is influenced by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the channel opening voltage shifts to more positive potentials. The inward rectification is primarily due to blockage of outward current by internal magnesium. This receptor plays a key role in regulating the heartbeat.
