Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of four RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPL10A gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L1P family. It is located in the cytoplasm. Expression of this gene is downregulated in the thymus by cyclosporin-A (CsA), an immunosuppressive drug.
In mice, RPL10A expression decreases in neural precursor cells during development. Previously known as NEDD6, this gene has been renamed RPL10A (ribosomal protein 10a). Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
