Target Information
Adiponectin is a protein hormone secreted exclusively by adipocytes that regulates lipid and glucose metabolism. It plays a role in various physiological processes including homeostasis and obesity. Decreased levels are associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In mice, adiponectin improves insulin signaling through activation of AMP kinase and PPAR-alpha, enhancing fatty acid transport and oxidation in skeletal muscle.
