Target Information
The A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are a group of structurally diverse proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA) and localize the holoenzyme to discrete cellular regions.
AKAP12 is expressed in endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and osteosarcoma cells, acting as a scaffold for protein kinases A and C and phosphatases in signal transduction.
It colocalizes with RII PKA at the cell periphery and is associated with cell growth regulation.
Antibodies to AKAP12 may occur in patients with myasthenia gravis.
Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
