Target Information
Thymus development depends on complex interactions between thymocytes and stromal components. Epithelial V-like antigen (EVA, also known as MPZL2) is expressed in thymus epithelium and downregulated during thymocyte maturation. This gene is expressed in the thymus and several epithelial structures early in embryogenesis. It is homologous to myelin protein zero and associates with the cytoskeleton. EVA mediates cell adhesion through homophilic interaction and may participate in early thymus organogenesis. The protein has a V-type domain, two potential N-glycosylation sites, and a putative serine phosphorylation site for casein kinase 2. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
