Inhibins와 activins는 각각 뇌하수체에서의 폴리트로핀(follitropin) 분비를 억제 및 활성화합니다. 이 단백질들은 시상하부 및 뇌하수체 호르몬 분비, 생식선 호르몬 분비, 생식세포 발달 및 성숙, 적혈구 분화, 인슐린 분비, 신경세포 생존, 배아 축 발달, 골 성장 등 다양한 생리 기능 조절에 관여합니다. Inhibins는 activins의 기능을 억제하는 역할을 합니다.
