Target Information
Thymidine Phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate in the presence of inorganic orthophosphate.
It is chemotactic and mitogenic for endothelial cells, acting as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor in platelets.
Additionally, TP plays a role in the activation of fluoropyrimidines—cytotoxic agents used in cancer therapy—by converting them into active metabolites.
