Sontuzumab은 MUC1을 표적하는 바이오시밀러 항체입니다.
MUC1(Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA)은 대부분의 선상 및 관상 상피세포와 일부 조혈세포 계통에서 발현되는 대형 세포막 점액당단백질입니다.
MUC1은 여러 중간 형태를 거쳐 성숙하며, O-결합 당쇄의 연속적 추가와 가공을 통해 다양한 형태로 존재합니다.
유전적 다형성이 높아 반복 서열 수(30~90)에 따라 분자량이 크게 달라집니다.

90%의 유방암 및 전이암에서 과발현되며, erbB1(EGFR)과 결합하는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
MUC1 유전자는 7개의 엑손을 가지며, 다양한 스플라이싱 변이체를 생성합니다.
이 단백질의 과발현, 비정상적 세포내 위치, 당화 변화는 여러 암종과 관련이 있습니다.
