Target Information
Early endosomal antigen 1 (EEA1) is a 162 kDa membrane-bound protein specific to the early endosome and is essential for fusion between early endocytic vesicles. Early endosomes are cytoplasmic compartments that fuse with endocytic vesicles for redistribution of extracellular compounds. Zinc-finger-like domains are present at both amino and carboxyl termini, with the carboxyl-terminal domain conserved across several non-nuclear proteins involved in intracellular trafficking. This domain is an authentic zinc-binding domain critical for EEA1 localization. Membrane association of EEA1 depends on phosphatidyl 3-kinase activity.
