Target Information
Napsin 1 is an aspartic protease generally expressed in the lung and kidney, and in metastatic carcinomas. It processes surfactant protein B in healthy pulmonary and renal tissues but is abnormally regulated during carcinogenesis. Napsin evaluation is useful for identifying several cancers and differentiating primary tumors from metastases. Combined with thyroid transcription factor analysis, Napsin serves as a specific biomarker for carcinoma differentiation. It is also associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and protein catabolism in renal tubules.
