Target Information
Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, arising from single coding-exon genes.
They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and are involved in G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals.
The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, and the nomenclature for these genes and proteins is organism-specific.
For Research Use Only.
Not for use in diagnostic procedures or resale without express authorization.
