Target Information

GPRC6A is an Orphan-U GPCR with an unknown ligand. G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) comprise one of the largest families of signaling molecules with more than a thousand members currently predicted to exist.
All GPCRs share a structural motif consisting of seven membrane-spanning helices and exist in both active and inactive forms.
Activating ligands induce conformational changes leading to signaling via G-proteins and downstream effectors.
Negative regulation of GPCRs also plays a crucial role in cellular physiology and pharmacological research.
Notably, GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough) have achieved significant success in mental health and allergy treatment markets.
