Target Information
FGF18 is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities and are involved in various biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
In vitro studies show that this protein induces neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells. Studies in mouse and chick suggest that FGF18 acts as a pleiotropic growth factor stimulating proliferation in tissues such as the liver and small intestine. Knockout studies in mice imply its role in regulating proliferation and differentiation of midline cerebellar structures.
