Background
Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 4 (OR6C4) is part of the olfactory receptor family in Homo sapiens. These receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses that trigger the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors are G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for odorant recognition and signal transduction via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent across species.
