Background
Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily V member 1 (OR6V1) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response responsible for smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are involved in the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is one of the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent across species.
