Background
Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily K member 2 (OR5K2) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses responsible for smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are involved in the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent across organisms.
