Background
Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily V member 1 (OR2V1) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses leading to smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. Olfactory receptor genes form the largest gene family in the genome and are responsible for odorant recognition and signal transduction via G proteins. The nomenclature of olfactory receptor genes and proteins is species-specific.
